Beiberg Xiao Long Buns
Project Detail Xiaolongbao is a type of dumpling traditionally eaten in China. It contains a small amount of rich, delicious broth together with its flavourful filling. The Beiberg's signature dish is the original xiaolong buns stuffed with local produced pork and wild garlic ethically picked in Sweden's mountains. The assignment was to deliver graphic and structural design of cardboard packaging for food products using wild garlic (ramson). Beiberg is a fictional brand offering Asian food and products made with locally picked wild garlic. It has a few delivery and take-away stores in Stockholm and Oslo where customers can purchase bamboo-steamed bao and other East Asian products made with this superfood, sourced from the northern mountains. Challenge My goal was to include those in the Nordics who are unfamiliar with or uninterested in authentic Chinese cuisine as part of the target audience. To achieve this, I chose a clean design using blue and light colors with good negative space for the packaging, even though Chinese food is often associated with red. I ensured that the details, such as typography and illustrations, still accurately represented the Chinese theme. Striking the right balance was a challenging task. I decided to exclude the handwritten calligraphy typography (the Chinese characters for "xiaolongbao" as seen in the sketch) to prevent the design from leaning too heavily towards traditional style and making the product seem foreign to the targeted group.

Illustration
Both the blue color theme and the drawing touch are inspired by Chinese ceramics.
The Vermillion Bird, one of the four symbols of the Chinese constellations, serves as the brand's iconic illustration. These elements are often used symmetrically, reflecting the principles of Feng Shui.
Logotype
Beiberg is rapidly growing its business in the Nordic countries. Beiberg's signature ingredient, wild garlic, is picked in the "north" (bei in Chinese) "mountain" (berg in Swedish).
I used the Chinese character for "north" to create a design that resembles the veins of a wild garlic leaf, inspired by the wild garlic leaf itself.
